Sadness that goes beyond Words

In this world, there are many atrocious events that seem to shake our world to realize that there is something inherently wrong. In the United States of America, we have the first amendment to protect many of the freedoms that we live for. Specifically, the first Amendment seeks to give us our religious freedom and this should never be compromised. However religious freedom does not only exist in the United States, but it exists in other nations as well.

South Korea which is currently holding the Pyeongchang winter olympics is one the countries that have the right for religious freedom under the Korean Constitution article 20. As serious as the United States protects the citizens from their rights, South Korea should as well.

Recently there has been an event where religious freedom was compromised in South Korea. Even though there is so much joy surrounding the Olympics, there is a deep dark issue that we must be able to address. There has been a case where a 25 year old individual was murdered due to the forced conversion of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK). However, CCK is able to slip away for the crime due to a loophole in the forced conversion system in Korea. CCK was able to slip away due to making the parents commit the crimes so that whatever deed would not be at their fault. Therefore in this case, the parents of the 25 year old individual committed a crime that was being manipulated by the CCK. This loophole is something that must be addressed to the government of South Korea and this is a big issue that may spread in the dark areas of even our society.

CCK is currently on a "witch hunt" to find groups that are deemed as "cults" in Korea and new religious movements that do not follow their laws and doctrines. We know that any kind of witch hunt in history only led to the truth being spoken. During the McCarthy trials, many were accused of being a communist and even further the Salem Witch trials led to many to lose their lives for something they were not guilty of. Should lives be endangered because of religion? Should this be acceptable in any part of the world? I believe not and I hope it is the same with all of you. Let us remember that religious freedom is a right that every living being deserves. Let our beliefs not separate us and even further, may our beliefs not cause violence!

Thousands gather in Gwangju South Korea to fight for the cause of religious freedom
and punishment for those who break the laws of the deserving rights of every individual

Many are in support to stop this atrocious event, and 120,000 people rallied in support for this cause. If you do wish to support this cause, please comment and show that religious freedom is something you want to fight for.
