Is it a cult from God’s point of view or is it a cult from the point of view of men?

We should confirm‍ whether or not SCJ is a cult using the Bible as our standard.

Let’s discover the correct answer.

Since 1990, many Christians have joined Shincheonji after listening to SCJ’s revealed word (i. e. the word of revelation). This mass exodus of Christians angered many Korean pastors, and in response, these pastors have held several meetings to work out strategies for preventing their congregation members from leaving their churches. Ultimately, they decided to call Shincheonji a cult to avoid losing any more congregation members.

Just consider the 6,000 years of biblical history. Isn’t it clear that God’s prophets in both the Old and New Testaments were persecuted and killed for their testimonies (Mt 23:34-35; Acts 7:51-53; Rv 18:24)? As if it weren’t enough for God’s people to kill the prophets, they also falsely accused Jesus and his disciples of being heretics, cult leaders, and demon-possessed troublemakers so that they could murder them as well (Mt 12:22-24; Jn 8:51-54; Acts 7:55-60; Acts 24:1-5). They treated Jesus and his disciples as if they belonged to Satan so that their congregation members would not approach them (Jn 3:14; Mt 23:13). Just as confirmed through the references above, God’s messengers in each generation were persecuted (Heb 11:32-38).

Korean pastors have accused SCJ of being a cult; they falsely testified that SCJ proclaimed Mt 24 was the only passage in the Bible that describes the end times. SCJ, however, has never said any such thing. There is no evidence that this is true in any sermon recording or book published by SCJ. It is not God, but Korean pastors who decided to label SCJ as a cult. They have done this just as the people of the past mistreated God’s messengers as heretics. If you compare God’s prophets and apostles to the other pastors of their respective generations, those who spoke on behalf of God were orthodox. The latter group—the religious leaders of the world—however, were the real heretics.

2,000 years ago the religious leaders of the Judea :

• Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him.(Mt 26:3~4)
• The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.(Mt 26: 59, Mk 14:1~2, Lk 22:1~2, Jn 11:45~53)
• Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people came to the decision to put Jesus to death.(Mt 27:1)
• For he(Pelate) knew it was out of envy that they(Chief priests and the elders) had handed Jesus over to him.(Mt27:18)

We in Shincheonji have offered Korean pastors the chance to have a conversation with us several times, but they are thoughtlessly refuse our requests and continue to call us a cult. The true heretics, are today’s pastors who misunderstand the Bible. Because they have sown the seed of the weeds (i.e. the false teachings of Satan) in people’s hearts without knowing the true meaning of the Bible means they have given birth to the spiritual children of the devil (Mt 13:38-39). Anyone who preaches lies is a heretic.

Shincheonji is the place that has mastered the Old and New Testaments by receiving the revelation of heaven. It is a place that is testifying about the physical fulfillment of the Bible (Rv 1:2; Rv 10; Rv 22:16). For these reasons, Shincheonji is truly orthodox. 

Therefore, anyone who calls the orthodoxy of Shincheonji a cult proves him or herself to be a heretic.
They cannot obtain salvation; they will be judged. Those who post slanderous or disparaging comments about Shincheonji on the Internet are nothing but cyber-thugs.
They think their actions are righteous, and they refuse to engage in a civilized discussion with us.
If you believe their claims, Shincheonji is bringing Christianity to ruin. The reality, however, is that they are the ones who are destroying Christianity and killing the faith of their fellow Christians.
They disgrace and torment fellow Christians with their slanderous words.
Without even a hint of morality or reason, they grow more and more wicked by the day.
It is not even worth having religious conversations with these unprincipled persecutors who are working against God and the Bible.

Jesus told us to freely give what we have freely received (Is 55:1; Mt 10:8; Rv 21:6; Rv 22:17).

Because SCJ(ShinChonJi) is teaching and preaching the Bible free of charge, however, many pastors who charge people for Bible lessons are persecuting SCJ(Shinchonji) and calling us a cult. Which of these two groups is obeying the Bible and which is the true cult—the group that is freely providing teachings according to Jesus’ words in the Bible or the group that is nitpicking about the other group’s faithfulness to Jesus’ commands?

Distinguishing between God's church & church of the world

The congregation doesn’t have the Word because the pastor doesn’t have it, and the pastor doesn’t have the Word because the seminary he studied at doesn’t have it, and the seminary doesn’t have the Word because the spirit, which is the identity of the words, doesn’t exist there.  Who can deny it? God says that anyone who will add anything to or take anything from his Word (revelation) cannot enter Heaven and he will add disaster to him. (Rv.22:18~19)  He also says the Word is with God, so the Word is God, and life is in the Word, so the Word is the light of life (Jn.1:1~4)

We suggest those who insist that Shinchonji Church of Christ is an unorthodoxy(cult), to take a Bible examination between Shinchonji instructors and their doctors of divinity, professors and pastors, and between the saints who were taught by Shinchonji instructors and the saints who were taught by their pastors, in order to determine whom God’s Spirit is with and whose words are biblical. 

Those who call SCJ a cult and its revealed word a heresy are themselves the true heretics. Shinchonji has the holy spirit and the true pastor who speaks the revealed word; Shinchonji is truly orthodox (Jn 14; Jn 16; Rv 10). Those who despise SCJ and call us a cult are controlled by the devil. They are following the example of those who called Jesus and his disciples heretics (Jn 8; Acts 24:5). Please take a close look at the book Revelation and Commentaries, which was recently published by Shinchonji. Who speaks the truth and who lies? Lies are the seed of the devil (Mt 13:24-28; Mt 13:37-39; Jn 8:44). SCJ, on the other hand, has mastered the Bible. The one who overcomes has received the blessings promised in Rv 2 and Rv 3. He, along with the promised twelve tribes—the people who belong to heaven—can both be found in SCJ (Rv 7; Rv 14). 

Those who are truly orthodox are the ones who receive and testify about the revealed word according to the will of the holy spirit just as Jesus, Apostle Paul, and Apostle John did. Today, only those who receive the revealed word (i.e. the revelation) from Shinchonji can know the only true God, Jesus, and the one who overcomes. They are the only ones who can attain eternal life and realize their hopes of entering the kingdom of heaven (Mt 11:27; Jn 17:3; Rv 10; Rv 21:1-3).

Real orthodoxy and real cult

The Bible does not mention the word orthodoxy. The Bible does mention the word cult, but it does not give a clear definition. There are, however, standards in the Bible believers can use to discern orthodoxy from cult: the one and only true God (Jn 17:3) and false gods (Jn 8:41-44; 2 Thes 2:4); the true vine (Jn 15:1) and wild vines (Dt 32:32-33; Is 5:2); the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gn 2:9); the truth (Jn 1:14; Jn 3:21; Jn 17:17) and lies (Jn 8:44); God’s seed and the devil’s seed (Mt 13:24-25; Mt 13:36-40); the true pastor and false pastors (Jn 8; Mt 15); and heaven and hell (Rv 4; Rv 21-22; 2 Pt 2:4).

The Bible describes how people will all be taught by God (Jn 6:45) and how they will become witnesses for the Lord when the holy spirit rests on them (Acts 1:8). The Bible, however, does not teach us that we can become pastors after learning from other people or that we can speak from the pulpit and teach others after being ordained. Paul declared, “Even if we (or an angel from heaven) should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be condemned to hell!” (Gal 1:8). Revelation states, “I testify to the one who hears the words of the prophecy contained in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book,” (Rv 22:18-19).

 The Korean Christian Press recently published the proceedings of several forums. One of these forums, in particular (the seventh), has revealed an unsettling fact concerning the origin of the Christian Council of Korea. “The Christian Council of Korea (CCK) was originally initiated as an organization of conservative Christian forces in support of Mr. Kim, a Korean politician. Mr. Kim wanted to mobilize conservative forces to support a third term for the Korean president during Korea’s military dictatorship.” (Please refer to the Christian Council of Korea website.)

The forum also declares, “The CCK was established in 1989 with many Korean Presbyterian churches as its charter members. Today, it is considered to be a representative conservative Korean Christian organization.” As the forum has revealed the undeniable facts, the foundation of the CCK was originally intended to meet certain political needs. With its origin focused on the mobilization of conservative Korean Christians for political gain, they cannot claim to be orthodox. Nor can they claim to be representative of Korean Christian organizations.

Furthermore, because the Korean Presbyterian Church allowed its members to praise and bow down to the Japanese emperor during the most recent Japanese occupation, how can they shamelessly continue to maintain their claims of orthodoxy? It was Calvin who first founded the Presbyterian Church. Did Calvin obey Jesus’ commands of love, forgiveness, and atonement for sin? Calvin recklessly murdered people who went against his doctrines. Some pastors who belong to the Presbyterian Church have recently driven a man to murder his ex-wife because she refused to change her denomination to Presbyterianism. The CCK is acting just as Calvin did. How can they be considered orthodox?


Heretics(real cult) are those who tell lies, persecute, curse, and murder others without hesitation in accordance with the will of evil spirits. These people are those who spread the unbiblical and arbitrary teachings of men without knowing the meaning of the Bible (Jn 8:44; Gal 1:8; 2 Thes 2:9-12).

Just as God fulfilled the promise he made through Abraham in Moses’ time (Ex 12), and just as God fulfilled the Old Testament at the time of Jesus’ first coming (Jn 19:30), God is accomplishing the New Testament through SCJ today. Thus, SCJ has been testifying about the physical fulfillment of the New Testament (Rv 1:2; Rv 10; Rv 22:16). SCJ is accomplishing the fulfillment of the New Testament (Rv 21:6), which no one in any previous generation was able to accomplish.
